Full-time journalists who have at least two years of experience and work at print, broadcast or online media organizations can apply for a course in London focused on basic reporting and writing skills in August. The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations invites young people under the age of 25 to submit original 5-minute videos on migration, diversity and social inclusion. Three winning videos will receive $1000 and the makers will be invited to New York City to attend an award ceremony. Deadline is June 27. Filmmakers and documentarians from the Arab world whose feature-length projects were produced in the last five years can submit their work to a festival in Barcelona which aims to combat negative perceptions about the Arab world and build bridges among the Mediterranean community of nations. BBC Arabic's new film and doc festival Aan Korb is open for submissions including feature and short films, documentaries and investigative and citizen journalism, created about the Arab world since the start of the uprisings in December 2010. Deadline extended to 28 May. More info HERE

AFKInsider is hosting a blogging competition where the best blogger every month will be asked to write a paid weekly story for AFKInsider the next month. The Cities Alliance – a a global partnership for urban poverty reduction and the promotion of the role of cities in sustainable development – has launched the Catalytic Fund Call for Proposals 2014 with the aim to increase spatial, social and economic inclusion.
