Kenya: Tosha Chakula kwa Wote Voices (Food for All Voices)

Sustainable Practical Program for Africa (SUPPA) has been organizing smallholder farmers into organized groups to synchronize their voices in advocating for policy change, food production, value addition and marketing of farm produce. This project proposes to train the rural farmers on how they can use the citizen media to engage the government in seeking agricultural services to boost their farming activities. This is an addition to empowering them with information on how they access information through the same media to expand and diversify their farming ventures.

Vanuatu: Kalja Blong Mi

This project aims will train 20 youth representatives from different communities and cultural groups in Port Vila to use citizen media to research and document their unique cultures, customs and languages. Participants will create digital products of their choice (photo essay, video, audio recording etc.) that will be shared via an online blog to promote increased intercultural learning amongst urban youth.

Zimbabwe: The Reel Time Project

The Reel Time Project is a school of citizen journalism focusing on equipping young girls aged 13 to 18 from marginalised Zimbabwean Communities with the necessary skills and technology to document and share innovative stories. The objective is to increase the diversity and plurality of information in and from around Zimbabwe through the use of an application called StoryMaker while teaching the girls how to develop and edit short stories using mobile phones. This will enable the girls to engage the world in discussions about issues affecting them.

Nigeria: Acting to Keep Children Safe and Alive

The project theme ‘Acting to Keep Children Safe and Alive’ illustrates the need for proactive as well as preemptive steps to keep children safe and help increase their chances of survival in their infancy stage and beyond. This project is aimed at empowering people to take action in improving their own health and the health of their family at home, starting at birth. It also gives the public and participants an opportunity to empower or guide people through policy and technology changes, as well as introduce them to new health and safety options as they become available in a community context.

Mobile Voice Messaging: Creating, sending & receiving feedback through micro-audio delivered on a voice messaging platform.

India: ANANDI – A Project for Better Menstrual Hygiene

To make a portal that will contain all relevant information regarding menstrual health and hygiene where women can ask questions, share stories, blogs, etc. Also, to introduce an anonymous phone helpline where 250 women of village Chharba (in Uttarakhand) can ask questions, which would be directed to the portal by trained Anganwadi workers. A panel of specialists from a regional hospital will entertain aforementioned queries once a week via a videolink and also answer on portal.The documentation of videolink will be printed and distributed among village women and also uploaded on portal.

In the savanna, and along the forests, game reserves and national parks the Morans and communities benefits largely from the environment,though under represented online. This project seek to target 2000 of these people directly or indirectly to use mobile phones for photos, text, facebook, twitter,and work with local administration, forest and wildlife services and the global community to raise voices, save rhinos, elephants from extinction and conserve our environment.
