Finalist: Mapping for Niger

The project will create a Volunteer Technical Community (VTC) by training and mobilizing Nigerien students in ‘collaborative open source humanitarian mapping’ to increase inclusive information sharing in crisis preparedness, international solidarity and citizen agency through targeted digital capacity building and outreach. The VTC will then engage key humanitarian actors in Niger to contribute to OpenStreetMap, a free online mapping tool. This initiative will train motivated youth in an employable skill, encourage volunteerism, and promote the active use of social media for positive outcomes.

Finalist – Albania: Waste in My City

The project is an emergent and prevention response to survival conditions of 92% of the Roma community working and living with waste in Albania. It will encourage participation models and listening to Roma’s voice, through use of social networks like development mechanisms. Informing on social media, building the denouncing directory at Riciklimi.al; the competition with photos and blogs from Roma and for the Roma will accompany this initiative.

Philippines: BALSA Mindanao People's Media Lab

BALSA Mindanao (Bulig Alang Sa Mindanao/Help for Mindanao) is a citizen-led mobilization for disaster response and climate justice advocacy in Mindanao. The People's Media Lab will be a community-access new media training initiative for those in the frontlines of rebuilding and rehabilitation of typhoon-destroyed areas. The Philippines was ranked 4th most vulnerable country from climate change and extreme weather in 2012 (UN).

Tanzania: Sauti Yangu Media

The project will involve Government and non Governmental to get Emergency Response & Prevention. Different feedback will be collected.

Uganda: Open Air Communication from Peasant Communities

Uganda is experiencing human sacrifice practiced for rituals by traditional witchdoctors in addition to the rampant economic and social problems facing rural poor communities in Wakiso district. Children and women are most vulnerable targeted population for human sacrifice. The project is an online open air campaign against human sacrifice and all forms of corrupt tendencies which cause poverty in the rural communities.

Pakistan: Digital Health Awareness Program for Pregnant Women

Venezuela: Share Best Practices to Reduce Disaster
