Eduardo Ávila of the Voces Bolivanas project recently visited the REPACTED project in Kenya. Read his accounts of the works and the challenges of this project. Many REPACTED members have their own blogs now but they can rarely update because of costly Internet connection. They have produced videos and images of their magnet theater production aimed at behavioral change in marginal societies in Kenya but cannot upload in their blogs because of slow Internet connection. The second day of the Global Voices Citizen Media Summit projected different works and achievements of Global Voices Online. The Rising Voices project was certainly in the spotlight as it involves in giving the voice to those who need it the most and improves the lives of people who are neglected by the media and the communities. We look at the presentation of the Rising Voices project in the summit and the reactions of the participants and the media.

Kenyan youths face a low life expectancy because of extreme poverty, poor health care and an AIDS epidemic. Some of them are internally displaced and took refuge in camps after the post election violence. AIDS Rights Congo
AIDS Rights Congo trains communication officers from local AIDS organizations in digital story telling, podcasting, and the creation of blogs to document the stigma and discrimination of people infected and affected by HIV and AIDS in Congo. 
Breaking The Silence in Kwa Mashu
In the township of Kwa Mashu, on the outskirts of Durban, South Africa, the Kwa Mashu Community Advancement Project (K-CAP) is training 20 new citizen journalists from within the township how to report on local stories related to local health issues affecting the community. 
Neighbourhood Diaries
Neighbourhood Diaries is a pilot project which trains children of Kolkata's red light slums how to use creative writing and online media to create and disseminate unrecognized and authentic community narratives in local and global media. 
Serbian Web Journalism School
The Serbian Web Journalism School gathers local new media experts to teach the fundamentals of citizen media to traditional journalists and everyday Serbians. 
Nari Jibon
The Nari Jibon center in Dhaka incorporates citizen media into existing English, computer, and Bangla classes for young Bangladeshi women. Rising Voices is a Global Voices project supported by the Knight Foundation and OSI.
