Abidjan Blog Camps: Théophile Kouamouo Has Been Released

The African blogosphere exploded with anger and concern when Théophile Kouamouo was arrested with his two colleagues of the Ivorian Daily Le Nouveau Courrier for refusing to name the source of a published report. Ivorian bloggers like Manasse Dehe used blog posts and Facebook groups to update latest information and spread the news to the world. The three journalists were freed on 26th of July after spending two-weeks in prison.

Abidjan Blog Camps: Free Théophile Kouamouo

Théophile Kouamouo, one of Francophone Africa's leading bloggers, and the project leader of the Rising Voices grantee Abidjan Blog Camps has been arrested for publishing a newspaper report. Théophile Kouamouo is the Managing Editor of the Ivorian daily 'Le Nouveau Courrier', which published a report on the embezzlement in the coffee and cocoa sector of Ivory Coast. Théophile and his colleagues of the newspaper were arrested because they did not reveal the source of the information.

Abidjan Blog Camps: Alloco Bloggers Party In Ivory Coast

On Saturday, December 19, 2009 the second Alloco Bloggers Party was organized in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Dozens of Ivorian bloggers were present including several bloggers who attended the Abidjan blog camps. Meanwhile the success of the citizen journalism platform Avenue 225 in Ivory Coast led Israël Yoroba to launch a similar platform titled Avenue 223 in neighboring Mail.

The Rising Voices Grantee Abidjan Blog Camps started its first citizen media training program this month. A training session on 'Journalism and e-blogging' was held at the Press House of Abidjan. Ten journalists from various Ivorian media participated.
