Past and present Rising Voices grantee projects contributed to Blog Action Day, a global event where bloggers from around the world write about the same topic on October 16, 2013. These projects joined thousands of other bloggers to share their perspectives on the topic of Human Rights in Brazil, Niger, and Colombia.

Chicas Poderosas, an organization founded by Mariana Santos to inspire innovation in the newsroom via technology, hosted its third event in Bogotá, Colombia from September 11-13. The three-day meetup culminated in a Hackathon led by Mozilla and featured lectures on content creation, data visualization, and much more.

FreedomHack, a 24-hour hackathon taking place in Washington DC, tried to tackle some of the problems facing Mexico's journalists. Coming up with new, simple ideas, to help journalists to stay secure and to get their stories out, the apps will be taken to Mexico for testing on the ground.

The Indigenous Digital Excellences Agenda Summit took place at the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence in Redfern, Australia this past June. Around forty emerging and established indigenous thought-leaders from around the country attended to discuss and share ideas around increasing indigenous engagement with digital technologies in Australia.
