A Quick Look at the Rising Voices Microgrant Proposals

From Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, Rising Voices received 1175 proposals from 124 countries. Here is a quick look at some of the demographical information from those proposals, including countries represented, focus areas, and terms from the project descriptions. This diversity demonstrates the ongoing interest and need in bringing citizen media to local underrepresented communities.

Rising Voices received 1175 proposals from more than 120 countries for the 2012 microgrant competition for citizen media outreach projects. Over the next six weeks, we'll be reviewing each proposal to select which projects will join our grantee community. Announcement date is expected in mid-March. Thanks to everyone that participated.

The Centre for Internet & Society (CIS), India, and HIVOS of the Netherlands are hosting the 2011 Digital AlterNatives Video Contest as a part of the ‘Digital Natives with a Cause’ project. The contest revolves around the theme “Everyday Digital Native” and asks participants to share stories on what makes their everyday life “digital”.

For a Bolivian Digital Space with Greater Participation

Rising Voices is organizing a three-gathering in Cochabamba, Bolivia on December 12-14, 2011. The focus of the gathering “Conectándonos” (Connecting) is to provide support and training to 35 participants from underrepresented communities and those working closely with these groups to examine how they can play a role in ensuring that the Bolivian digital space is more inclusive with greater participation by all.

Rising Voices is pleased to announce the five newest members to join its global community of citizen media grantees. Each of the selected projects will receive microgrants to implement their proposed project to teach others how to use various citizen media tools. Please join RV in congratulating and welcoming the five projects from the countries of Guinea-Bissau, Greece, Brazil, India, and Mali.

Update on Rising Voices Microgrant Selection Process

Rising Voices would like to provide an update on the selection process for the latest round of microgrant funding for citizen media outreach projects. We have selected the finalists and they have already been contacted for an interview. We will choose the grantees from among these finalists and hope to make the announcement by the last week of March.

Rising Voices is pleased to announce that our Blogging Positively Guide is now available in the Russian Language, thanks to the efforts of Maryna Reshetnyak. The Guide is now available in four languages and counting.
