EWAMT: Women In Protest

The recent wave of uprisings in the Middle East And North Africa has also hit Yemen. In January this year thousands of Yemenis started demonstrating in the capital Sanaa and elsewhere demanding resignation of president Ali Abdulla Saleh, who has been in power for more than 30 years. The notable thing is that more and more women protesters have joined the demonstrations. Bloggers of the Rising Voices grantee in Yemen also share their experiences.

The community mailing list has now over a thousand members. In this feature we interviewed Shahjahan Siraj of Unnayan TV (development TV), an online video channel of Bangladesh. He is regularly publishing video contents on development, human rights and educational issues of Bangladesh.

Repacted: Mr. and Miss Red Ribbon 2010 Walked In Style

Mr. and Miss Red Ribbon is a charity event organized annually by Nakuru Youth groups including the Rising Voices grantee Repacted from Nakuru, Kenya. As a major build up activity towards World Aids Day on December 1, 2010 this event deals with eradicating stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS.

Madagascar is going through a turbulent time. A heavily disputed referendum on the new constitutional proposal was held on the 17th of November. The election process was marred by irregularities and it was also overshadowed by a failed coup attempt.
