“News from the Source”: Rising Voices republication on Oximity

Categories: Announcements, Digital Media, Feature

In November, Global Voices partnered [1]with the website Oximity [2], a new model encompassing both original, citizen-driven news articles and aggregating news from other sites. Now, Rising Voices will join in, with their own “playlist”, directly sharing articles. You can find us on their main website as one of the available “playlists”.

As they say:

Oximity's mission is to re-engineer the news industry entirely by providing a substantive and significantly improved alternative to traditional news media as a mainstream news provider. We do so by collecting news directly from the source, facilitating curation by readers, and distributing the news content across the internet.

Here is how it works, as explained by Global Voices:

Their goal is to offer “news from the source” as an alternative to traditional mainstream news providers. Any organization or individual can use the site as a publishing platform with their own name and branding. And readers can easily sort through vast amounts of content (in any language) by creating “Playlists” of sources or keywords (Tags) on a personalized homepage.

Oximity is particularly relevant to Rising Voices’ mission. Oximity's focus is on “writers, organizations, topics and regions that get insufficient coverage from mainstream News media, and/or are prone to manipulation or misrepresentation.” They include writers from NGOs as well as educational and humanitarian organisations – and in many languages.
