Here is the second installment in our Rising Voices updates (3rd – 17th of July 2013) of what we've been doing, finding, and publishing online… just in case you've missed something. We hope you find it useful!

“It dawned on me watching a kid play a game called “Uncharted” on the Playstation that gaming, for the most part, is a really “white” experience. They are not seeing their culture reflected in the media they consume.” Ryan Oliver of Pinnguaq, a company which crowd-sourced a translation of a digital game  into indigenous  language. Read more on the RV blog.

We look back at the past year of Xela Civic Libraries, a 2012 Rising Voices grantee. The project took place in three community libraries in rural municipalities in Guatemala, focusing on access to information and  sharing  news, the project helped bring attention to local issues. Escuelab in Lima, Peru provides a physical space for a diverse group implement projects together to implement projects for the benefit of society through digital media, with a focus on community support Read more on the RV blog.

Chicas Poderosas is a new project  to engage more women in the interactive data-based journalism in Latin America, building news content for the whole population, not just 50%. Read more on the RV blog.

Maria Santos, founder of Chicas Poderosas, also wrote us a guest post, explaining what inspired her to begin the project: “we want to empower that pro-active attitude, entrepreneurial spirit… to do more and talk less!” Read more on the RV blog.

The Indigenous Digital Excellences Agenda Summit in Redfern, Australia brought together indigenous thought-leaders from around the country attended to discuss and share ideas around increasing indigenous engagement with digital technologies. Read more on the RV blog.

Meet Projeto Nosotros, a duo exploring Latin America's modern culturescape. While acknowledging the importance of roots and tradition, they take aim at contemporary arts. AND… Free Press Unlimited and Center IbnRochd are looking for a Project Coordinator to help run the StoryMaker project, an open source mobile training project with the aim of helping citizen journalists, traditional journalists, bloggers and activists tell better multimedia stories through their mobile phones. The core of the project is a mobile application called StoryMaker. Find out more about the job- deadline is July 20.
