“I think citizen media will be critical in helping non-Africans connect more closely to African stories. I think that bloggers and other citizen authors offer readers the opinion to connect with an author as well as with a story, and that this may build human connections to stories that otherwise might be ignored or missed.”

Substitute Bangladesh and Ethan Zuckermann has described what you do, Rezwan. It's thanks to you that I know about Nari Jibon and The Uncultured Project. And now I've learned about the Rising Voices grantees.

What a great post - one of many to be circling around yesterday. Really inspiring to see the masses rally together to raise awareness.

Thanks for listing the ways one can help out the RV grantees. Holidays are coming up in many countries and these are very original gifts to make, maybe on behalf of a loved one. Who needs another watch, or another lame household appliance?

Hint, hint... :)

great post Rezwan . We thought about making a blog carnival on Blog Action Day (since we brightly missed the first one!) but we came to the realization that at least 70% of the bloggers posts were about poverty. The Rising Voices grantees are the best spokepersons for their countries and have the skills to open debates on ways to resolve social and econimical echues.

Would you please honor us and share your thoughts by leaving a comment on our post? I am trying to come up with something new tomorrow and I will include and encourage readers to visit your blog back so we can all unite to fight poverty.
