[...] A very powerful statement by Marnie Webb sets non-profit organizations on tip toes as they seek the social tools necessary to reach their goals. More insight on non-profits and social media comes from Beth Kanter. Beth is a trainer, blogger, and consultant to non-profits and individuals who want to effectively use social media. She writes in the Read Write Web. In a recent blog discussion on the Netsquared community blog, some nonprofit techies believed that the answer is actually a change of mindset. Their point was that non-profits need to adopt a new philosophy of making their constituents the distributors of their message, and their work. To facilitate this shift, there is a need to educate more non-profits about what possibilities Web 2.0 tools offer and the practical ways to get started. It took years and small steps for many in the nonprofit sector to make the leap from fax machines to email - and it’ll be the same when taking the leap from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0. [...]

As a rookie non profit with members from every part of the world, we use intensively any ICT and web 2.0 resources while working. We instinctively knew we needed more synchronisation and integration in order to work more efficiently.
I spent loads of hours on the web trying to improve our techniques and this post is more than helpful, it's like finding the Graal ! Every single tip and link lead to more links and more tips.
Thanks a lot for the share and let's wish each other the best for Rising Voices success!

regards,

Rezwan, excellent summary of what's available on the NGO/nonprofit field.

Thanks for the kind words too!

Also, don't forget the power of social fundraising too - I have a resource on that topic here:
http://personalfundraising.wikispaces.com Using these techniques, I've been able raise lots of money to help children in Cambodia!

I'd also like to add that in the nonprofit technology field there is a community tag called "nptech" - and many nonprofits are using it to share information. So, if you want other people in the nonprofit field to read your posts - tag them with nptech. I do a weekly summary of items tagged each week on netsquared and my blog.
